ABOUT US

Nathan Walker is an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast, a Merchant Marine and Eagle Scout, retired Chief of the Newbury Fire Department, contracted Federal Application for Merrimack Valley planning, and contracted Applicator for ATS.

“I believe that integrity, honesty, and a wide range of experiences in all facets of management, give me an advantage as owner/operator of Walker Agronomic.” Nathan Walker grew up on the greens of Ould Newbury Golf Club, carrying his grandfather’s golf bag.

His fascination with manicured grass and the history and tradition of the Golf game led him to peruse his first job as Greens Keeper in Newbury at age 15. After Nathan obtained an undergraduate degree from Plymouth State College, he attended the University of Massachusetts, to peruse a degree in Soil Science, Biology, Plant Pathology, and Turf Grass Management. He worked at the university as a Lab Assistant, isolating different fugal strains to be used and biological control options for turf diseases. He began to understand the uses of chemical alternatives that were natural and sustainable in the environment for plant protection products.

After college, Nathan spent five years growing with Ipswich Country Club, working his way from Intern to First Assistant, and then up for the position of Head Superintendent. He managed the Agronomic Program and took part in a massive tree removal project and renovation of the bunker system on the course.

With the experience he had in Ipswich, this landed him the position back at his old stomping grounds of Ould Newbury as Head Superintendent. Nathan spearheaded an extensive rejuvenation which included, irrigation installations, greens rebuilds, bunker renovations, all facets of golf course construction, and a return to a natural condition. During these rejuvenations, Nathan also served his town working on-call at the fire department and EMT, where he had the opportunity to grow in his leadership to the ranks of the Chief of the Newbury Fire Department. He was able to initiate a change from an independent fire company to a municipal fire department, with replacements of multiple fire apparatus, renovation of fire headquarters, and implementation which led to the unionization of the men and full-time professional fire department of the town.

His next endeavor led Nathan to land the Head Golf Course Superintendent at the prestigious Renaissances Golf Club, in Haverhill Massachusetts. His contribution to the course included a massive Greens renovation at a high level, bunker renovations, and cart constructions, and oversaw the construction of a two-million-dollar, on-course bathrooms project. He also finished the order of conditions working with DEP which included a wetland bridge construction project, all while maintaining some of the best Golf Course conditions on the East Coast.
